The pandemic we are currently facing has brought out the worst in people as often as it has forced us to unite together, leading many to be frightened for the state of the world once we recover. Things, simply put, just keep getting worse. But, on the artistic bright side, it was a STELLAR month for music all across the spectrum.  Fiona Apple told us to fetch the bolt cutters , The Strokes' "new abnormal" turned out to be making music not indebted to  Is This It , Westside Gunn dropped his best project yet  (featuring a cover from Caravaggio) , and Walter Etc. released the best breakup album I've ever heard . DOUBLE FEATURE: SubWolf & Gray Heron

By Luke Robinson With this feature, I thought I would take the opportunity to shine a light on some awesome artists bubbling up in the electronica sphere. These projects provide the perfect soundtrack to these dystopian times we are experiencing.  SubWolf is a Knoxville-based electronic project that utilizes live instrumentation, featuring kinetic drum and bass playing set to icy synth grooves and ambient textures.  Gray Heron is a one man electronic project based in Asheville, NC (a little over 100 miles from SubWolf, you all should link up or something). The project takes influence from hip hop grooves and bubbly 90’s ambient and trance with some psychedelic elements.  But enough chit chat, lemme get to some mini-reviewing... Floor 7 EP - SubWolf SubWolf dropped their debut EP, Floor 7 , this past March. Review: Man Alive! - King Krule

By Luke Robinson We should all know by now that Archy Marshall, London’s working class pasty ginger, is actually a reincarnated delta blues singer. As King Krule, Archy has endlessly showcased his  monstrous, whisky-barrel aged baritone croon, glazing it with his thick English accent as he charges into crippling belches and screams. He commands a room in the tradition of voice-driven singer-songwriters, but his style - rooted in dissonance as much as emotional longing - is unlike any other.  6 Feet Beneath The Moon , a decade-defining (10/10) album, seamlessly fused the trip hop stylings of Portishead and Massive Attack with the post-punk onslaught of Gang of Four. The jazzy instrumentation enveloped in a spanky, Stratocaster tone only further defined his unique bent. Sadly, his last album - 2017’s the Ooz - was extremely undercooked.
